Minimal Methadone Programme
This project aims to enable and support General Practitioners to prescribe a modest amount of methadone within a structured regime to clients who are on the waiting list for the methadone maintenance treatment programme.
Clients able to access this programme are selected from the methadone maintenance treatment programme waiting list, having undergone a full assessment by the Alcohol and Drug (A&D) team. Minimal methadone is prescribed by GP’s and dispensed by pharmacists within primary care, with support and education for GP’s been provided by the Medical Officer with the A&D service.
