Donovan Clarke

Chief Executive

He mokopuna mai Ngatokimatawhaorua waka tenei, e mihi atu nei kia koutou. I am excited to join Manaia Health PHO and come home to Northland.

In 2008, I left the NZ Police at the rank of Inspector, entering the health sector as a senior executive in the disability sector. The lessons and leadership I gained in my years in the NZ Police were quickly applied across this demanding range of assessment and coordination services. In 2011 I became the Executive Director Māori Health at Southern DHB where I helped transform health services to high need populations including Māori. During this period I completed a MBA at Otago University. I hold directorships on Te Putahitanga o Te Waipounamu, Whānau Ora Commissioning Agency and Te Rau Matatini, National Māori Mental Health and Addictions Workforce where I am the Chair of their Audit and Risk Committee.

The health sector is faced with some significant challenges and with my background in law, social services and health I'm looking forward to leading change across the primary care sector. Addressing health inequalities across Northland is a priority, we must meet the health needs of our entire community. We need to get this right and work together to improve the health status of everyone living across Northland.
